Redcar Palace is delighted to present ‘Fried, Frozen and Wrapped’: Our major summer exhibition that celebrates the national obsession with the takeaway and eating out.
“As English as Fish and Chips” has become a well-known idiom to describe something that is quintessentially British so much so that, like the dish, it is deeply rooted in British culture. And yet, like many other British icons, the true story of fish and chips is far more diverse.
Bringing together invited artists and works submitted through our open call, “Fried, Frozen and Wrapped” features nearly 100 works in this Open Call exhibition, across the mediums of drawing, painting, photography, film, sculpture and installation. Featured artists include:

Until 24th August our front gallery space features a children’s art exhibition, presented in partnership with Redcar Contemporary Art Gallery and made in response to works in their current Summer Open exhibition.
We are grateful to all the exhibiting artists who have so generously responded to the theme or provided us with existing work. As with all Redcar Palace exhibitions the curation of “Fried, Frozen and Wrapped” has been a large collaborative effort involving, James Beighton, Megan Bingham, Toni Dawes, Tom Ennion, Aphra O’Connor, Phillipa Plumpton, Sophie Skillcorn, Beth Smith, Millie Thomas.
